FRA Seeks Volunteers for
FRA Board of Directors

If you are interested in being put into consideration for nomination to be on the 2018 FRA Board election ballot please submit your bio information to the FRA at, sometime between January 2-31, 2018.

The FRA (Florida Racquetball Association, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Florida corporation organized to promote, manage, and support Florida racquetball, and to design and implement procedures and guidelines for the benefit of the FRA membership.  All Board members are non-compensated volunteers that are elected by the active FRA membership for three year terms.

The active elected Board members that comprise the executive committee of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer have specific organizational responsibilities and are elected by the majority vote of the active Board members, as per the organizational bylaws.

All FRA Board members have numerous responsibilities based on interests, talents, and organizational needs.  Some of these responsibilities include:  tournament director roles;  membership promotion;  event sanctioning;  certified referee program;  USAR liaison;  rules consulting;  feature article writing;  media consulting;  photography contributions;  fielding membership questions;  marketing;  coordination with other sanctioning entities in Florida;  website management;  membership communications;  player awards research;  clinic and camp promotions;  women's racquetball advisory roles;  junior racquetball advisory roles;  FRA archival functions;  reporting on national and world racquetball events, etc.

A desirable candidate needs to be a full-time resident of Florida, an FRA/USAR member, and a racquetball enthusiast willing to volunteer much time, ideas, and effort toward a teamwork approach of promoting, supporting, and improving racquetball in Florida all throughout the year.  Board members are also expected to make every effort to attend and participate in the four Board meetings annually, the one annual membership meeting, and to support or assist with the three main FRA annual tournaments -- State Singles, Florida Open, and State Doubles.

If you are interested in exploring the possibility of volunteering your time for a three year term commitment, please submit a Letter of Interest (LOI) and a standard digital head and shoulders publicity photo of yourself via e-mail to by January 31, 2018.  The LOI should be an attached file, either an MS Word or Adobe PDF document.  The LOI needs to highlight your interests, talents, skills, time availability, and voluntary contributions you might be able to offer to promote, support, and improve racquetball in Florida.

In the LOI, you may also want to include any history you have of contributing successfully to the FRA in the past or any other racquetball organizations (with references).  Or, you might also provide a list of the Florida (or other) tournaments, clinics, or events that you have either participated in, conducted, or supported over the last several years.  The LOI should be a minimum of 50 words and a maximum of 400 words and needs to include your contact information, including full name, telephone numbers, mailing address, and e-mail address.

Also, those who do become Board members must submit to an FBI background check every 2 years.  The Board member must also complete a SafeSport online exercise mandated by the US Olympic Committee, and complete SafeSport continuing education every 2 years.

For those enthusiasts that cannot make a three year commitment to being a Board member, there are ways of contributing on a much smaller scale.  At times the Board will call on non-Board member racquetball volunteers to assist the FRA or to be involved with membership feedback or advisory groups.




1 - Official Letters of Interest (LOI's) and accompanying digital photos must be submitted via e-mail to anytime from January 2-31, 2018, even if you have informally stated your interest in the past or are an active Board member at the end of their term.

2 - All persons submitting valid LOI's will be notified by the FRA within five business days of submission that your LOI has been received in good order.  If you do not receive confirmation, please re-contact the FRA.

3 - Then during the period from February 1-15, 2018, the entire current Board will review all LOI submissions and have an opportunity to communicate with the persons submitting the LOI's (if necessary).  The Board will then deliberate and vote on a simple majority basis to approve each potential official ballot nominee (if any) for the upcoming 2018 election as per the organizational bylaws.

4 - The Board's final approved ballot and the official 2018 online election procedures will be publically posted on the FRA website by February 20, 2018.

5 - If there are approved applicants and a proper ballot, and if a general election is to be held, all general membership voting will be accepted from February 20 through March 18, 2018.  To qualify to vote, you must be a full-time Florida resident, have and keep an official Florida address on your USAR membership records, and you must be an active USAR/FRA indoor racquetball member as of January 1, 2018.  
If there is only one candidate on the approved ballot, a membership election will not be necessary since the candidate would be accepted by default.  If the number of candidates on the approved ballot is equal to or less than the amount of approvable Board openings, a membership election is also not necessary since all ballot members would be accepted.

6 - Results of the FRA Board member election (if applicable) will be posted on the FRA website by March 31, 2018.  Any new terms will be from March 1, 2018 through February 28, 2021.
